Printed Kanni silk is a contemporary take on one of Kashmir’s most treasured textile traditions — the legendary Kani (or Kanni) weaving technique, known for its intricate, loom-woven patterns and luxurious feel. Traditionally, Kanni silk shawls and sarees are handwoven using small wooden sticks (called “kanis”) to create delicate floral and paisley motifs, a labor-intensive process that can take months to complete. However, printed Kanni silk offers a modern alternative that captures the aesthetic richness of traditional Kani designs through high-quality digital or screen printing on soft silk fabric.
